MCH Oboe Studio FAQs

How long to lessons last?

I offer beginner lessons and intermediate/advanced lessons.

Beginner lessons: 30 minutes long as to get used to the instrument and develop playing endurance.

Intermediate/Advanced lessons: 60 minutes long.

What are your lesson rates?

Beginner lessons: $25.00/lesson, plus tax

Intermediate/Advanced lessons: $40.00/lesson, plus tax

I will send an invoice at the beginning of each month with the projected tuition (based on number of lessons) for that month. Monthly tuition can be paid electronically via ApplePay or Venmo (@MCHOboe), or cash/check.

What do I need for my first lesson?

Bring your oboe, any music you currently have, reeds (if you have them), and a pencil!

I am a parent dropping off my student - can I sit in on the lesson?

I encourage parents to sit in on at least the first lesson. I teach out of my home, I want you and your student to feel comfortable. If you would rather, you may wait in your vehicle or return at the end, whichever you prefer.

Where can I purchase equipment for my oboist?

Some equipment may be available in store at Ted Brown, however they do not carry an extensive oboe accessory selection. I recommend purchasing accessories from double reed specialty shops like MMImports.com or ForrestsMusic.com. Some tools to make your life as an oboist easier: TUNER, reed cup, swab, oboe stand, multi reed case, and of course LOTS OF PENCILS!

I need to cancel or schedule. How soon do I need to let you know?

Life gets crazy between work, family, school, and extracurriculars. I am always willing to adjust schedule wise with enough time in advance, which is why I ask any cancellations or rescheduling be communicated at least 24 hours prior to your lesson. Payment for lessons cancelled less than 24 hours before hand will not be rolled over into the upcoming month's tuition price. I appreciate your support and understanding.
